Creating a Turtle’s Home
November 6th, 2009 . by adminWhen setting up your new turtle’s home, the location is a very important factor to consider. All cages and tanks should be placed in a location suitable for viewing by all family members, but also far enough away or high enough out of reach so that other family pets or young children do not have access to the opening, causing the potential for harm to both pets and children. Location of the tank is one of the most important parts of pet turtle care because there are many factors to consider. For example, the tank needs sunlight, but it should never be direct sunlight because that feeds fungus or algae growth in the water and on the turtle shell. Not enough sunlight, though, and the turtle can experience proper vitamin deficiencies, just like a human can. It can suffer from lack of Vitamin D or calcium, causing malnutrition and other unsightly, untimely and unfortunate illnesses. Remember these factors when placing the tank so the turtle’s life can be maximized.
