Choosing the Right Aquarium Lights
February 19th, 2010 . by adminChoosing the right aquarium lights can get a bit confusing, if you don’t know what Kelvin ratings are, how the light intensity can affect your aquarium, or when you should use a bulb with a higher wattage. You simply cannot limit your choice to the types of aquarium lights such as fluorescent lights, metal halide lighting, and compact lights. Whatever kind of light you choose, depending on the benefits they have to offer, you need to be more specific with the kind of lighting your aquarium needs.
First off, the wattage determines how bright the bulb is. As for the Kelvin ratings, they measure the color temperature. With higher Kelvin ratings, expect the light to be bluish. With lower degrees, the lamp or bulb might appear whiter or a bit yellowish.
You simply cannot take a guess, and pick one with the highest wattage or Kelvin rating. What you need to do is get as much info as you can about the lighting needs of specific types of fish and the aquarium you intend to keep. Aquarium lights come with their own specifications, so based on your research, you can easily find what you’re looking for.
