This is going to be particularly true if the borrower has often been successful in business. I am not pointing this out because I would like you to feel sad for the borrower. I’m pointing this out to help understand the borrower’s mindset and to put the commercial loans default in context. Generally the borrower isn’t making an attempt to rip you off. It is not likely the borrower is using business proceeds to live the high life at your cost. Part of what you want to do when a loan begins to lag in performance is to discover what is happening.
